Scores of people, including school children, flew colourful kites at the India Gate lawns on Saturday as part of a kite flying festival inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
The two-day festival has been organised by the Delhi Tourism in association with Shahjahanabandad Redevelopment Corporation and Department of Art and Culture of Delhi government as part of efforts to revive the age-old sport.
Ms. Dikshit inaugurated the festival by flying a kite herself in presence of the crowd, including senior government officials.
Officials said those wishing to fly kites can take part of the festival between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday. Expert kite makers from all over India are participating in the festival.
Cultural performances and magic shows are also being organised as part of the festival, besides a mini-food court serving various delicacies of Delhi.
