Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have managed to retrieve the eyes, liver, kidney and heart valves of a 75-year-old man here on Saturday, making him the oldest cadaver donor at the Institute.

AIIMS director M.C. Misra said: “Narsingh Pal had a decade-long history of diabetes. He was admitted to G.B. Pant Hospital for the past four days and was diagnosed with intra-cerebral bleeding, after which he was shifted to a ventilator.”

After the patient died, the family expressed the wish to donate the eyes of the deceased. After they agreed to donate other organs as well, his body was transferred to AIIMS.

The organs were retrieved after a two-hour long operation.

“The liver has already been transferred to another hospital for use,’’ added Dr. Misra.
