A two-year-old boy who was kidnapped from Jama Masjid on June 5 was reunited with his family on Wednesday. The boy was rescued from west Delhi’s Madipur.

The police have arrested four persons — Radha (40), Sunita alias Soniya (24), Saroj (30) and Jaan Mohd. (38). The accused allegedly made money by kidnapping kids and selling them to childless couples.

Yahil went missing on June 5 when he had come to the Jama Masjid with his parents. His parents had approached the police after failing to find him. “A case of kidnapping had been registered and teams formed to look for the child,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa.

Sold for ₹1.1 lakh

Pictures of the boy were flashed across social media, and even on television. The police had then received a call from a woman who claimed to have seen the boy. “The woman told us that she knew a childless couple who were looking to adopt a kid. She also said that a woman called Saroj facilitated adoption and that she had asked her to help the couple. Saroj then sent the woman a picture of Yahil and said that he lived in Gurugram,” said the DCP.

Suspicious after seeing Yahil’s pictures on TV, the woman asked Saroj if the boy was kidnapped. Though Saroj denied the charge, the woman went ahead and approached the police.

Saroj then alerted Soniya, who had sold Yahil to her for ₹1.1 lakh, that the police might be on the lookout for them. Fearing arrest, the two took him to Madipur and left him there. They then called up the police to inform them about an abandoned child.

The police rescued the child and sent him to the Child Welfare Committee.

Connecting the dots, Saroj was arrested from Raghubir Nagar after which all her associates were traced.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Jaan Mohd., a labourer, had kidnapped the child and sold him to Radha, who then sold him to Soniya for ₹1 lakh. Sonia then sold Yahil to Saroj for ₹1.1 lakh.

Saroj was looking for a prospective buyer to sell the child for ₹1.8 lakh, the police said.
