Kejriwal harassing civic bodies: Vijender Gupta

‘He is not releasing funds to them’

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Friday claimed that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was harassing the BJP-run municipal corporations using “baseless excuses” and not releasing funds to them out of “feelings of revenge”.

A media report on Friday claimed that Central government officials had in a meeting on Thursday rejected a request made by Mayors of the corporations for increase in funds because they had not yet accounted for the money given earlier. Attacking the civic bodies in a tweet, Mr. Kejriwal had wondered why the corporations were asking the Delhi government for money when the BJP-ruled Central government was unwilling to give them funds.

Media report slammed

North Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Varsha Joshi, who had attended Thursday’s meeting with officials of the Urban Affairs Ministry, has rubbished the media report calling it “false, misleading and mischievous”. She said progress of projects was discussed at the meeting.

South Delhi Mayor Narender Chawla too slammed the media report saying Thursday’s meeting was held to review and examine progress on Swachh Bharat schemes. He said no request for increase in funds to civic bodies had been made during the meeting.
