‘Centre has shamelessly unleashed CBI’

With the Central Bureau of Investigation probing all Uttar Pradesh mining Ministers from 2012 to 2016, including former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday hit out at the Centre.

The CBI had announced last week that it was looking into the role of the former mining Ministers, including Mr. Yadav, who held the portfolio from 2012 to 2013, in a case of alleged illegal mining.

Reacting to the development, Mr. Kejriwal tweeted: “In its last weeks in office, Modi govt shamelessly unleashing CBI on @yadavakhilesh is a reminder to all that we must not forget what Modi’s political opponents have faced during last five years. Time to throw out this dictatorial & undemocratic regime [sic].”

Having faced CBI raids at his office and at those of his Cabinet colleagues in the past, Mr. Kejriwal and the AAP have accused the BJP government of using the investigating agency against them.
