On a day the election date of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections was announced, Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal wrote an open letter to the youth appealing them to join him.

In the letter posted on a popular website, the former Delhi Chief Minister wrote that fence-sitting would get them nowhere and if a problem bothered them, they had to find a way to communicate and solve it.

Although Mr. Kejriwal did not make any statement about the announcement of poll dates, senior leaders of his party said the declaration was a victory for the people of Delhi.

“The Aam Aadmi Party led a struggle for elections and foiled all attempts by the BJP to cobble up a majority through unfair means,” claimed the party.

On its preparation, the party, which has been in the campaigning mode for quite some time, said the early preparations and some last-minute changes made to the overall strategy would result in a majority for them.

The party said it was encouraged by the success of its dialogue series and the work done by the frontal organisations, which did not exist during the 2013 elections.

Prior to the announcement, Mr. Kejriwal held a meeting with his party candidates or the campaign managers and briefed them about the future moves, said a party leader.

The star campaigner of the party and the biggest crowd puller for them, Mr. Kejriwal has already held 54 public meetings till Monday and is expected to hold 50 more in the coming days.

The last-minute preparations of the party anticipating the enforcement of the model code of conduct included issuance of authority letter to all candidates.
