A lower court is likely to pronounce judgement on Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday. This is for allegedly giving false information about her educational qualifications while filing her affidavit with the Election Commission.
The complaint filed by a freelance writer had stated that Ms.Irani had given different details about her educational qualifications while filing her nominations for the Lok Sabha as well as the Rajya Sabha polls.
The court was told that in her affidavit for the April 2004 Lok Sabha polls Ms. Irani had said that she completed her BA in 1996 from Delhi University's (school of correspondence) whereas in another affidavit of July 11, 2011, for contesting the Rajya Sabha polls from Gujarat she had said that her highest qualification was B.Com part I from DU’s School of Correspondence.
The complaint has also alleged that in the affidavit filed for nomination of April 16, 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Ms. Irani had said that she had completed B. Com Part-I course from Delhi University's School of Open Learning.
The order had been reserved on June 1 by Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain.
