JNUSU election: NSUI cries foul over cancellation of nomination

Student body to move court; accuses JNU, DU of helping ABVP

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Saturday condemned the cancellation of nomination of their presidential candidate in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and said that the students’ wing will approach the court.

NSUI incharge Ruchi Gupta said, “The cancellation of Vikas Yadav’s candidature is clearly mala fide and in contempt of the court order. This is exactly what had happened last year with our Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) presidential candidate Rocky Tuseed. When we approached the court, not only did we get him reinstated but also won the polls.”

Pakora issue

“Both instances show that the administration of JNU and DU are rising in service of the ABVP by helping it to knock out their opponents” said Ms. Gupta.

Terming the cancellation of nomination as “illegal”, the NSUI in a statement said, “It was learnt that the action was taken by the University for non-payment of fine that was levied on him for selling pakoras as part of a political protest. But the Delhi High Court had said that no coercive action can be taken against him till the appeal is adjudicated upon by the Vice-Chancellor. This illegal cancellation is blatant contempt of court.”

Political pressure

Mr. Yadav said, “The incident on which notice was served has already been decided by the court. They [JNU administration] are acting under political pressure.”
