The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) on Wednesday protested at the JNU Central Library against the closing of its reading rooms, and not allowing students to bring their personal books into the building.
“The library has two reading halls. The hall, which the administration has closed citing fire emergency, had a door outside and one inside. The inside one has been opened now after closing the outside one... students are being cited library rules to stop them from taking personal books inside,” said the JNUSU.
“We have given the librarian a solution to allow students to take personal books in, but the administration is adamant. When we asked the librarian to use her discretion and open the adjoining hall as NET exam and thesis/dissertation submissions are nearing she said she will take her own time to communicate with the higher authorities,” said the JNUSU.
“JRF-NET exam is around the corner and the insensitivity of the librarian and JNU admin only shows how it has reduced the library’s budget by 80% and is continuously mismanaging and diverting funds for personal luxury,” said JNUSU president Sai Balaji. He said that they have given the administration a 24-hour deadline to solve the issue
