JNU statue controversy

January 09, 2019 01:05 am | Updated 01:05 am IST - New Delhi

Alleging “financial mismanagement” by the Jawaharlal Nehru University administration, the JNU Students’ Union on Tuesday said the administration had refused to share information on the funding of construction of statues and sculptures on campus.

Referring to the construction of the Vivekananda statue, the JNUSU said: “Who is funding the statue and where is the money coming from? Why is the administration afraid to provide the information through RTI, which is statutory?”

Chintamani Mahapatra, JNU Rector I, on Monday, had said that the statue was being funded by “an alumnus”, but refused to reveal the further details.
