Jawaharlal Nehru University on Friday said it has decided to hold its computer-based entrance examination for 2019-2020 in May next year, keeping in view the difficulties faced by students in writing the examination in December.
The decision was taken at the 148th Academic Council of the university.
JNU Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar informed the members of the Council that the National Testing Agency has agreed to conduct the first-ever computer-based JNU entrance examination. “JNU is the first Central university to be collaborating with NTA to conduct its national-level entrance examination across the country,” said the V-C. He also told the Council that JNU was going to offer 1,080 MPhil and PhD seats in 2019-20 admissions.
2018 exception
The JNU entrance examination has always been conducted in May, except last year, when the exercise was held in December following a decision taken by the Academic Council.
The university said in a statement that the number of examination centres will be doubled as compared to previous years to make the entrance test accessible to applicants from remote areas. “Mock test centres will also be introduced so that prospective applicants can practise and become familiar with the computer-based entrance examination well before the scheduled date of the test,” said JNU Registrar Pramod Kumar.
Several students and faculty members have opposed the decision to hold computer-based examination. The university said that the Council has taken serious note of the non-cooperation and non-compliance by a few centres and School of Arts and Aesthetics, which have declined to set the question papers, and recommended appropriate disciplinary actions against defaulting faculty members.
