Jewellery shop owner shot at

Four masked robbers allegedly looted gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from a jewellery shop after opening fire at its owner in Mansarovar area of East Delhi on Friday evening, police said.

The injured owner identified as Girish Chandra Verma was admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound in his shoulder.

The incident sparked outrage as traders and public blocked the road in the area demanding arrest of the robbers. They also held the police responsible for frequent incidents of robberies in the area. Senior police officers assured them of speedy investigation following which the blockade was removed.

The incident took place at around 4 p.m. at S K Jewellers on Mandoli Road.

Verma, his brothers and other employees were present when the masked robbers entered, the police said and added that Verma was shot at as he resisted the robbery. — PTI
