Students had been protesting on the campus for the last 15 days, against Hafeez Ahmad, head of the department of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

Allegations of sexual harassment was brought against Mr. Ahmad.

The university on Thursday said, “Students reiterated their demand of suspension of Mr. Ahmad. It has been made clear to the students that within the existing framework of rules and procedures, the suspension at this stage is not feasible as statutory enquiry is in progress.”

Officials also said that students were assured that “no legal or administrative action will be taken against them if the protest was withdrawn and classes were resumed”.
