Jamia Millia celebrates Independence Day by unveiling gift from Indian Navy

Model of INS Kolkata installed in front of FTK-CIT building

Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Najma Akhtar, as a part of the Independence Day celebrations on the campus unveiled the model ship of INS Kolkata, presented by the Indian Navy to the university. The model has been installed in front of the FTK-CIT building of the university.

INS Kolkata is the lead ship of the Kolkata Class Stealth Guided-Missile Destroyer of the Indian Navy.

Ms. Akhtar said that the installation of the model ship will motivate the students to join the defence forces to ensure security and integrity of the country. She also thanked the Indian Navy for presenting the model ship to the university.

Describing Jamia Millia Islamia as ‘mini India’ she said, students and staff members from all parts of the country with different culture and faiths are studying and working here and took pride that the space had a cosmopolitan culture and people are gender sensitive.
