Irani degree row: court reserves order for June 24

June 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - New Delhi:

A Delhi court on Monday reserved order on taking cognisance of a complaint against Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani accusing her of allegedly giving false information about her educational qualifications along with her nomination papers. Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain reserved the order on conclusion of argument by the counsel for the complainant.

The counsel for the complainant, K.K. Manan, said that Ms. Irani had given different details about her educational qualifications while filing nominations for the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha polls. In her nomination papers for the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, she said that she had completed B.A. in 1996 from Delhi University (correspondence course), but in the nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls in 2011, she said that her highest qualification was B.Com part-1 from the school of correspondence of the same university. The Magistrate will pass the order on June 24.
