Inspection of shelter home: liquor bottles found

A magistrate-level investigation has been ordered into the matter

A team of Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission along with the police have conducted an inspection of a shelter home, run by an NGO here.

The team was shocked to see liquor bottles and other expensive items at the shelter home.

Following the inspection, an investigation has been ordered against the shelter home.

Commission vice-chairperson Sushma Singh inspected Sai Kripa Dham Bal Kuteer shelter home. She inspected the premises and the rooms. She also examined the records and books at the shelter home for girls.

Other expensive items

The team also found branded cloths, spectacles, perfumes, watches from the rooms of the girls there.

The team said it will order a probe to find the source of the expensive items at the shelter home, as generally expensive items are not found at such places.

Ms. Singh, after the inspection, said that she has taken the charge on August 2 this year, and she has been keeping an eye on the State’s shelter homes to understand the conditions of the homes and their occupants.

Ms. Singh was also in dock as she was accompanied by BJP’s women wing president Dimple Anand.

Ms. Singh did not respond when was asked why an office-bearer of a political party joined her on an official visit in her official vehicle.

The shelter home is being run for the past 30 years. Presently it has 29 girls.

Shelter home’s defence

When asked how a liquor bottle reached the girls’ room, an office-bearer of the shelter home replied that the bottle was empty and one of girls had found the bottle and brought it to her room from outside the shelter home. A magistrate-level probe has been ordered into the matter.

The committee will submit its report within 15 days.
