Insiders suspected

April 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - New Delhi:

Given how it was executed, almost every aspect of the metro station robbery points to the role of insiders, investigations so far have indicated.

An observation of the CCTV footage of the suspected duo easily gives out that they knew where all the CCTV cameras were placed. The duo could be seen making deliberate attempts to look down whenever they were stared at by the cameras.

“The robbers knew for sure that the weekend collection of the fares had not been deposited to the bank. They also were aware that the cash was kept in the SCR until it is deposited in the bank,” said a senior CISF officer.

In addition, they knew that the easy way to get access to the SCR was on the pretext of filing a complaint. “The robbers also chose the morning hours because they knew that it was unlikely that there would be more than one staff member inside the SCR at 5.30 a.m. on any given day,” said the officer.

While the police are probing these angles, CISF officers are baffled why Kunal Kishore did not raise an alarm for 19 minutes that he was in the SCR after the assault on him. “The SCR is equipped with an alarm system, a public addressing system, a wireless set, landline phones, mobile phones, etc,” said a CISF officer.

CISF officers who met Kishore at the hospital quoted him as claiming that he had fallen unconscious after the assault because of which he did not know what all transpired and he could not raise an alarm.

Later he headed to the washroom because he was too dazed and shocked by what all transpired, he told his colleagues. The police are waiting for him to recover before they speak to him for details. Jitendra Mani, DCP (Metro), said that Kishore’s injuries came across as inflicted against his cooperation.

“He has claimed that the events left him very scared because of which he could not respond as expected in an ideal situation,” said Mr. Mani.

The police are trying to track the culprits through the details of the smartcards swiped by them. Last checked, the police found movement of the suspects in Kushambi in Ghaziabad. Police sources said they were closing on the suspects, but refused to divulge more details citing hindrance to probe.
