India’s Cannes entry to kick-start Jagran festival

Film buffs are in for a treat this week with the 6{+t}{+h}edition of the Jagran Film Festival, opening on July 1 at the Siri Fort Auditorium.

The festival will take off with India’s entry to the Cannes Film Festival, Masaan .

The films have been categorised into categories such as ‘Indian Feature’, ‘Top Shorts’, ‘Jagran Shorts’, ‘Cinema of the Sellers’ and ‘Debut Directors’. The ‘Top Shorts’ section will showcase sans dialogue film One Man, Eight Cameras , French films Leftover and Your Heart at Random , among others.

Under ‘Jagran Shorts’ a variety of global films such as Hiroshima (Indian), Gen X 01 (Hindi), Swedish films 600$ and Repestre , Vithya (Marathi), to mention some, will compete for the ‘Best Short Film’ title.

In the Indian feature section, The Toy Maker (Malayalam), Chotoder Chobi (Bengali), Aarohi (Assamese) and Postcard (Marathi) will be screened.

In the non-competitive ‘Happiness’ section, the festival will revisit films like Life is Beautiful, Pursuit of Happyness, Gone with the Wind and Hindi films such as Anand and Guide .

The festival also features a rendezvous with some masters of the cinema world who will hold workshops in which film enthusiasts can participate. There will also be an exclusive tete-e-tete with filmmaker Subhash Ghai on the elements of film-making.

The festival has the American Center as the official country focus partner, where the best of American cinema will be screened in all festival cities to promote its culture through films.
