Illegal plastic bags: DPCC asked to probe charge

Following an allegation pertaining to the illegal manufacturing of plastic bags in Wazirpur, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to look into the matter.

A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said, “Allegation is that plastic bag manufacturing activity is illegally being carried out at Wazirpur for the last 40 years creating poisonous pollution in the area. On the top floor, dyeing unit is also being run which further adds to the pollution.”

“A copy of this letter be sent to DPCC so that the matter can be considered, if not already considered. The DPCC may also involve the local Sub-Divisional Magistrate,” the Bench said.

The DPCC has been directed to submit a report to the tribunal by February 28. The directions came after the green panel received a complaint from Delhi Vikas Manch secretary Mohd Salim.
