IIT-D signs MoU with Taiwanese university

To offer Joint Doctoral Degree Programme

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish and offer a Joint Doctoral Degree Programme to students who work together and carry out joint research and academic activities in a mutually beneficial way and to look for synergies across the doctoral programmes of each other.

200 joint PhD students

Director of IIT-D V. Ramgopal Rao said that the MoU was in a step the internationalisation of IIT-D and said that the target is to have over 200 joint PhD students under this programme, with support from industries.

Mau-Chung Frank Chang, president of National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, said that the significance of this agreement sets an example for the future development of Taiwan and Indian academics.

“Through this programme, we will be able to enhance the mobility of scholars, nurture our talents and researches, with the best from both institutes to ensure quality education for future world leaders.” Mr. Chang said.

The institute said that under the MoU, an academic and student exchange will be developed through the JDP whereby students who successfully complete all the requirements of the programme will be awarded a joint degree for the thesis by both institutions.
