Former Congress MLA Kanwar Karan Singh addresses the media at his residence on Tuesday.

Former Congress MLA Kanwar Karan Singh’s son Gaurav and his female friend were threatened with a gun by the son of former BSP MP Rakesh Pandey. Mr. Gaurav Singh alleged that his friend was bullied by accused Ashish Pandey’s female friends inside the washroom.

Recalling the incident, Mr. Gaurav Singh said that he had gone to have dinner with his friend.

“She was feeling unwell and went to use the washroom. Three women were already there. I was at the washroom door. They started misbehaving with my friend and bullied her,” he said. The women allegedly poked fun saying “Why do you drink when you can’t handle it?”

Police sources said that the three women allegedly made a derogatory gesture (flipped the finger) at Mr. Gaurav Singh. In retaliation, he did the same which escalated into a fight in which Mr. Pandey intervened.

No attendant

Mr. Gaurav Singh claimed that there was no woman attendant inside the washroom, therefore, he went to get someone to check on his friend.

“The attendant then helped my friend back to our table. She was really scared following the incident. She suggested we leave. That is when we went to the front porch to wait for our car,” he said.

Mr. Pandey and his friends were already there and they allegedly started abusing the duo.

“This man wearing pink pants got out of the car with his gun and abused us. I stayed shut. He went back and returned saying he will shoot me,” Mr. Gaurav Singh said.

During the incident, Mr. Pandey’s friend told Mr. Gaurav Singh that his friends were drunk and requested him not to react.

“I stayed shut the entire time. We were getting scared so he [Ashish Pandey] was scaring us. I chose not to go to the police because I did not know this guy, I had not seen a gun before,” he claimed.

In the video suspected to be taken by one of the occupants of Mr. Pandey’s car, the women can be heard hurling abuses at Mr. Gaurav Singh and his friend and complaining for making a derogatory gesture at them. “Why is he [Gaurav Singh] showing us the finger?” one of Mr. Pandey’s friends can be heard saying. Mr. Pandey himself can be heard screaming “I am from Lucknow” followed by expletives.

Family in shock

Responding to the incident, Mr. Gaurav’s Singh father Mr. Kanwar Karan Singh said, so far they have not filed a police complaint. However, Mr. Gaurav Singh gave his statement to the police.

“After the incident, my entire family is in shock. Whatever we had to say, has been told to the Delhi police. I have complete faith in the police that they will investigate the matter. We are also scared that what happened to my son does not happen to me. We have given a written statement,” he said.
