Husband stabs woman over suspicion of illicit affair

Accused, an alcoholic, arrested

A 58-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar following a fight over suspicion that she was in a relationship with a younger man, the police said on Sunday.

The incident happened on Saturday morning. The couple has three sons who were at home at the time of the incident. They managed to lock their father in a room and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, a senior police officer said.

They informed the police about the incident, the officer said. A case of attempt to murder was registered and the accused was arrested, the officer added.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that he suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with a 23-year-old man who also lives in the same locality.

However, investigation revealed that the accused is jobless and an alcoholic. He often picked up fights with his wife and children over petty issues, the officer said.

The weapon of offence has also been recovered, the police said.
