Hotel waiter held for voyeurism

‘Used chair to climb up, peep in rooms occupied by guests’

A waiter at a Karol Bagh-based hotel here was arrested for voyeurism on Thursday, the police said on Friday.

Raja Babu, a resident of Bihar, was nabbed after a couple caught him red-handed while he was peeping inside their room through the ventilator, the police said. Babu allegedly used a chair to climb up and peep inside rooms occupied by guests. The police said he had been working as waiter at the hotel, which is located in Karol Bagh’s Nai Walan, for the past few years. A case under sections of voyeurism has been registered against him. The incident was reported late on Thursday by an Agra-based couple who are event managers and had arrived in Delhi for work. Around 11 p.m., the wife heard a noise and saw a silhouette in the ventilator. She told her husband, who climbed out a window and saw a man standing on a chair and peeping inside their room, the police said.

The husband confronted the waiter, who tried to flee but was caught. The couple called the police and the accused was handed over to them. The police have seized Babu’s mobile phone to check whether he had made videos of the couple. A probe is under way to determine whether he was involved in similar acts earlier too.

The police are questioning the hotel manager to find out how Babu’s voyeurism went unnoticed at the hotel.
