Hooda to hold mega public rally in August

To discuss strategy for Assembly polls

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will sound Congress’s poll bugle for the upcoming Assembly poll in the State at a mega public meeting, Parivartan Maha Rally, in Rohtak on August 18.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s sitting MLAs and other senior leaders in Delhi on Sunday.

Mr. Hooda said the leaders discussed strategies on how to “throw out” the BJP government in Haryana.

He added that a meeting of workers will be held at New Grains Market in Rohtak on August 4 to prepare for the rally. Public sentiment is against the BJP government in the State and all sections of society want a change, the leader said.

The meeting, however, once again underscored factionalism in the party with Haryana Congress party president Ashok Tanwar and a few other senior leaders staying away.

Mr. Tanwar has set up a separate group to prepare for the election and had also held a meeting earlier this month in Gurugram to devise a strategy for the upcoming polls.

However, none of the sitting MLAs attended the meeting.

Downplaying the tussle over State leadership issue, Mr. Hooda said that the party MLAs had already adopted a resolution urging the high command to make a decision in this regard.

While hinting at the need for change in State leadership, Mr. Hooda said that the Congress should fight the BJP government, which had miserably failed on all fronts, with its full strength.
