A number of homebuyers in ABW Aditya Niketan project in Manesar here took out a car rally in protest against the prolonged delay by the Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) in completing verification of flat owners and commencing construction.

The protesters, including women and children, took out the car rally from HSIIDC office in Manesar to Rajiv Chowk. They demanded a time-bound schedule from the Haryana government for handing over of the flats. Stating that the rally was just the beginning, the protesters said they will hold more protests if their demands are not met.

ABW Manesar Allottee Welfare Society president Naresh Jindal said despite the Supreme Court directing the HSIIDC earlier this year to complete the verification process of unit holders in 60 days, the process is yet to be completed. “We gave our details in response to a notice in newspapers but the HSIIDC issued letters seeking the same details once again. This is harassment,” he said.

The ABW Infrastructure Limited had sold flats, floors, houses, plots and commercial properties to more than 2,000 people in 2010. The builder allegedly did not commence construction but collected close to ₹1,500 crore towards the cost and other charges. The flat holders brought this to the notice of the authorities concerned but no action was initiated and even the police did not take any action despite First Information Reports being registered, alleged protesters.

“We were also made to suffer by the political system, the police and the judiciary due to cases filed by farmers against the builder and the Haryana government. The Supreme Court had on March 12 given a verdict saying the HSIIDC will have to complete the project. It also directed the corporation to return money to those flat owners who demanded so. But the HSIIDC has not adhered to the deadline for verification of claims by homebuyers. Repeated visits to HSIIDC office too failed to yield results,” said Mr. Jindal.
