Head to JNU for Thailand fair!

February 07, 2012 01:45 pm | Updated 01:45 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Thailand-style boxing matches, dance performances, movies and scrumptious food – all completely Thai. All this and more awaits students at Jawaharlal Nehru University here this Saturday at “Sawaddee Thailand” fun fair organised by the university's Thai students along with their counterparts from Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and Panjab University.

The fun fair, with quizzes and other games along with prizes for the worthy, is a first in the university and is sponsored by the Thai Embassy in an effort to strengthen the friendly relations between India and Thailand

“The relationship between the two countries is being increasingly strengthened over the years. From 2001 onwards, there have been three occasions when Indian Prime Ministers have visited Thailand with Thai Prime Ministers visiting India six times. Most recently, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations,” said university authorities.

The fair also celebrates the trade, cultural and political co-operation that exists between the two countries.

The one-day event will start at 11 a.m. and will continue up to 10 p.m. on Saturday.
