People living in condominiums along the Mehrauli-Gurugram Road held a demonstration on Sunday, seeking closure of pubs in the shopping malls alleging that they indulged in prostitution.

Drug peddlers

DLF Phase-II RWA president Umesh Gupta said that the residents were not against the pubs but the illegal businesses like prostitution rackets that were being run at pubs in shopping malls on Mehrauli-Gurugram Road. He also alleged that drug peddlers were active in these pubs.

Mr. Gupta said the demonstration was aimed at improving the lifestyle of the next generation and reclaiming the glory of Mall Mile. He said the residents demanded that the licences of all pubs running in shopping malls be revoked.

Haryana PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh, who was present on the occasion, said he would look into the matter. The police have conducted raids at several pubs in the malls over the past few days after K.K. Rao was appointed the new Police Commissioner and busted prostitution rackets. They have also written to the authorities concerned for revoking the licences of the pubs.
