Several stadiums and sports complexes in the Capital will shortly be thrown open to the general public to promote sports and physical activities among the people of all age groups. The grounds of government schools will also be opened to academies and clubs for imparting sports training.
The Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education (DoE) said on Tuesday that these decisions had been taken for broad-basing of sports from the grassroots level. The access of academies, clubs and individuals to government schools will also help promote sports activities among students. A statement of the DoE said it has also decided to start a “pay and play scheme” to promote sports among all age groups. Under the scheme, anyone can go to a designated stadium and sports complexes to play the sports available there.
Membership for sports facilities is already available in Thyagaraj Stadium, Ludlow Castle Sports Complex and Chhatrasal Stadium. However, Ludlow Castle Sports Complex has been excluded as the membership is full.
