The Delhi Government has constituted task forces in all districts for carrying out regular rescue operations to eliminate the scourge of child labour from the Capital.
The task forces are headed by the respective Deputy Commissioners (Revenue).
Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai said here on World Day against Child Labour over the weekend that a large number of first information reports had been registered against the defaulting employers under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, and the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
Mr. Rai said an amount of Rs. 20,000 per child labourer was also recovered from the defaulting employers as per the directions of the Supreme Court for rehabilitation of the rescued child labourers.
Expressing serious concern over the instances of child labourers below 14 years of age, Mr. Rai warned the employers against hiring children for work.
He said in a statement that the State government was committed to providing facilities to the rescued children to complete their education as laid down under the Right to Education Act.
