A 21-year-old man was arrested for stalking and harassing a woman, Delhi police said on Friday.

According to the police, the 20-year-old woman, a resident of Ajmer, Rajasthan, had lodged a complaint saying that the accused had been stalking and harassing her on various social media platforms using anonymous identities.

On April 7, the woman informed the police that her stalker had chased her to her college and was standing outside it. Subsequently, the accused was cornered and arrested, said DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi.

The police examined the accused’s phone and established that he was the same person who had been stalking the complainant on various social media platforms. The accused works as a government employee in Ajmer.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he met the complainant through a social media app about 5 years ago. Subsequently, they became good friends, but after some time, the two parted ways. However, the accused kept harassing and stalking the complainant. In January 2022, the complainant filed a complaint against the accused at Mahila Garima Helpline of Jaipur.

The accused subsequently apologised to the complainant, who decided not to press charges. However, after a brief period of time, the accused then began stalking the complainant through anonymous social media profiles.

The investigation further revealed that the accused arrived in Delhi from Ajmer on Thursday morning, and followed the complainant to her college.
