A six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted allegedly by an attendant on the premises of a private school in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday.

The accused, a resident of Sangam Vihar who had been hired by the school only a fortnight ago, has been arrested. The Delhi government on Thursday ordered a magisterial inquiry.

The incident happened just before school closing time inside the toilet where she had gone to relieve herself.

The victim’s father said she needs help cleaning up, and the accused, Rakesh, had gone in since the woman attendant usually deputed was not around.

“It was around 1.30 p.m. He touched my daughter inappropriately, which caused pain in her private parts. She then started screaming, due to which he panicked and left the toilet. After this she went straight to her classroom but did not reveal it to anyone,” said her father.

At home, the girl told her mother that she was in pain and then explained how the injury was inflicted.

Her mother immediately took her to the school where the accused was identified and thrashed by staff members before the police were informed.

A medical examination subsequently conducted at the AIIMS established that the victim had been sexually assaulted.

The police registered a case of rape against the accused under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and Section 383 of the IPC after the victim identified him.
