Girl injured in firing

April 18, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A girl was critically injured in celebratory firing during a wedding ceremony in Outer Delhi's Mongolpuri area on Saturday night.

Identified as Anjali, the victim was standing in the balcony of the second floor of her rented accommodation with her parents when she was hit by a bullet.

Police have zeroed in on Vikrant (24), a cousin of the groom, as the suspected miscreant who fired the shot. However, eyewitnesses could not trace the complete sequence when the police spoke to them.

“As the girl collapsed on the ground, many of those attending the wedding, fled from the spot and did not inform the police. Anjali’s parents heard her scream and rushed to the balcony to find her lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to a hospital where she underwent a surgery and remains critical,” said a senior police officer.

They said that the parents of the girl were clueless about how their daughter was hit by the bullet.

“Witnesses who were part of the wedding procession said all of a sudden someone opened fire and the bullet hit the girl. They said that as some people realised that the girl had been hit they fled the spot, perhaps due to fear,” the officer said.

A case of attempt to murder and under Arms Act along with other relevant provisions has been registered against the accused and efforts to nab him were on.
