SAR Geelani, who was acquitted in the 2001 Parliament attack case, was roughed up allegedly by ABVP members on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus on Wednesday night. Mr. Geelani had arrived there to deliver a talk on Kashmir issues.

The police were called to control the situation. No case has been registered.

The organisers of the talk said ABVP members threw stones at Professor Geelani’s car and tried to stop him from reaching the talk venue. The ABVP, however, denied the allegations saying its members protested peacefully because the talk was illegal.

“Some people from the ABVP surrounded my car and started throwing stones. They also tried to manhandle me, but the students formed a human chain and I entered the talk venue,” Mr. Geelani told The Hindu .

The talk was in remembrance of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhatt.
