Gangster stabbed to death at Nabi Karim

May 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - New Delhi:

A 40-year-old gangster, who was allegedly involved in several cases of robberies and snatchings across the Capital, was stabbed to death by a rival gang in Central Delhi’s Nabi Karim on Saturday evening.

The police said the murder of the victim, identified as Sheeshpal, was triggered over a monetary dispute.

“Two men involved in the crime, Dharmender and Suresh, have been arrested, and efforts to identify others connected with the crime are under way,” said M S Randhawa, DCP (Southeast).

According to the police, Sheeshpal was a resident of Mongolpuri in North-West Delhi, but mainly operated in the central district.

He was in the Nabi Karim area on Saturday evening to meet an associate when three to four men attacked him with knives and sticks.

“Eyewitnesses claim he attempted to fight back one of the attackers with a brick, but was eventually overpowered and killed,” said a senior police officer.

The police were informed by eyewitnesses and a team rushed to the spot.

The assailants had, however, already fled the spot. Sheeshpal was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Sheeshpal sustained several stab wounds in his thigh in addition to injuries on the head and chest.

A background check on the victim revealed that he was involved in several criminal cases, mostly snatchings and robberies.

He apparently headed a gang and was involved in a long-standing rivalry with another gang over jurisdiction and money.

“Dharmender and Suresh confessed to their involvement in the crime. Raids at several hideouts led to their arrest in South Delhi. More raids are being carried out to nab their associates whom they claim were involved in the murder,” the officer added.
