Accused targeted minor girls and sold them for marriage

Four persons including a woman have been arrested for allegedly running a racket where they used to kidnap girls and then sell them to prospective buyers for marriage, said the police.

Three minors have been rescued and efforts are on to recover four more who have been identified, added the police.

DCP (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad said that the accused, Neeraj (32), Anuj Pal (31), his 25-year-old wife and Babloo (31) have been arrested.

The police said that they had received a complaint in Geeta Colony police station on March 2, 2017, stating that the complainant’s 14-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. On February 18, this year, the minor was traced to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh from where the teams rescued her.

‘Sold for ₹4 lakh’

“During investigation, she was produced before the Child Welfare Committee. It was found that she was sold for ₹4 lakh to Neeraj for marriage,” said Ms. Prasad adding that Neeraj was arrested from Dadri.

When Neeraj was questioned, he revealed the involvement of Anuj, his wife and Babloo following which they were arrested and two girls were rescued from their residence in Ghaziabad. Ms. Prasad said that Babloo used to target minors at railway stations, bus terminals and nearby areas. He then used to take them to Anuj and his wife, following which they were sold to prospective buyers, she added. “It has also been revealed that there are four more victims and teams have been formed to rescue them,” the DCP said.
