Gang of burglars busted; 8 held

One of them is a professional dancer: police; all stolen items have been recovered

A gang of burglars has been busted and eight persons have been arrested, a police officer said on Thursday.

The police said they have recovered stolen goods from the accused.

On Sunday, a burglary was reported at a house in Jangpura, they said.

Following this, a first information report was registered and investigation was taken up.

CCTVs scanned

More than 30 CCTV cameras in the locality were scanned and in one of the footage, two persons were spotted on a motorcycle near the house, they added.

The person on the motorcycle identified as Deepak, is a bad character at the Bhalswa Dairy police station, they added.

Deepak and another accused Arun Kumar were nabbed from Bhalswa Dairy on Wednesday.

During interrogation, they revealed the names of their accomplices and allegedly told the police about the vehicles used in the commission of the crime.

Teams were formed following which the other accused — Harsh, Captain, Ankit Parcha, Vishal, Akash and Aiman — were arrested, said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East).

Arun is a dancer and performs in a professional troupe in stage and parties in Delhi, the police said.

All the stolen jewellery, shoes, one SUV, one motorcycle and another car used in the commission of crime have been recovered from their possession, they said.

Mr. Biswal added that the accused have also disclosed their involvement in four other cases of burglary.

Modus operandi

They used to break into the houses and steal valuable articles such as jewellery, cash and other items.

Then they would sell them in parks or other public places, the police said.

“The accused persons used to do a recce of houses in posh colonies of Delhi. After doing the entire recce, they would come to the spot on the vehicles with the housebreaking tools and implements. The mastermind used to come after the commission of theft to see if they had left any clue. If they had left clues or got captured in CCTV footage, then he used to order all the members of the gang to leave Delhi for some time,” Mr. Biswal added.
