The Noida unit of the Special Task Force on Sunday arrested four members of a gang accused of robbing a truck loaded with 6,000 mobile phones in Greater Noida on July 15, 2018. Over 1,300 mobile phones worth ₹ 1.31 crore and two SUVs were recovered from their possession.

The accused were identified as Abhishek Giri, Ajeet Kumar, Yashveer and Subhash Singh, all natives of Aligarh District in Uttar Pradesh. They were part of the gang involved in robberies on highways in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, said the Special Task Force.

The arrest

The STF had arrested 14 members of the highway robbery gang in the last four months and all of them are languishing in the jail, said the officials.

According to the STF, around 3.45 a.m. on Sunday, they received a tip-off about the movement of the gang in Kasna. The accused, who were traveling in two SUVs, were caught after a chase near Alpha 2 in Greater Noida.

Rajkumar Mishra, DSP, STF, said that the thieves were nabbed after police found a common link between two robbers’ gang, who helped each other in selling the booties.

Booties recovered

“We had earlier busted a gang, who had robbed loaded trucks belonging to e-tailer Amazon. A middleman, arrested in connection with the case, provided some information about the accused which helped us in nabbing them,” Mr. Mishra said.

He further added that the four accused had rented an apartment in Aligarh where they were hiding with the booties.

“The accused were selling off phones in small numbers in Gurgram. We got a tip-off on Sunday morning that they were on their way to sell the stolen phones to which we reacted promptly. The accused were nabbed and around 1,300 mobile phones worth ₹ 1.31 crore were seized from them,” Mr. Mishra said.

The accused were booked under sections 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), 414 (assisting in concealment of stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code. They were sent to jail after being produced in the court, said Mr. Mishra.
