A driver employed with the Rohini Forensic Science Laboratory was arrested for allegedly ramming the department’s SUV into a sedan in Outer Delhi’s Rani Bagh.

He has been fired from the job, the police said.

A senior police officer privy to the case said that the accused has been identified as Ishwar who was working as a driver at the Rohini FSL.

The victim, identified as Nawal Singh (53), an advocate and a resident of Rohini sector 24, said that he was on his way back from Mathura on the day of Holi and was crossing Madhuban Chowk when the incident occurred.

Jumped red light

“I was taking a turn towards Rohini and the driver jumped a red light. He rammed my car and the impact triggered the air bags. I sustained injuries in my hands,” Mr. Singh said.

The accused driver, however, managed to escape the spot. The victim noted down the registration number and informed the police.

A case on charges of rash driving and causing hurt was registered, said the police.

When investigators checked the registration number, it was found that the SUV was registered in the name of FSL Rohini, sources said.

The investigators wrote to the FSL director under Section 91 of CrPC (whenever any Court or any officer in charge of a police station considers that the production of any document or other thing is necessary) the next day asking for details of the driver, his address and contact number.

The investigating officer also asked for documents of the vehicle, footage from the CCTV camera installed at the entrance of FSL Rohini from 9 p.m.-10p.m on March 21 and a copy of visitor’s register of the main gate”.

The police were then provided the information by the FSL office with the driver’s details after which he was arrested, the police said.

During interrogation, he allegedly told the police that he was going to pick up an official from Mangolpuri when the mishap happened.

“He said that he took the vehicle from Rohini and was on his way to Mangolpuri to pick up an officer,” the police said.
