From Nov. 1, 44 teams to check sources of air pollution

Officials to take strict action against violators

Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Tuesday announced that 44 joint teams will be deputed across the city from Thursday to curb local sources of air pollution and take action against violators.

The teams will comprise SDMs/ tehsildars, and officials from the municipal corporations, Delhi Pollution Control Committee/ Environment Department, Union Ministry of Environment, and Central Pollution Control Board, he said.

Mr. Hussain informed that this urgent campaign is being jointly organised by the Delhi and the Central governments, which will appeal to the citizens to strictly avoid all activities that lead to air pollution.

The joint teams will be mandated to take action against garbage burning, stubble burning, vehicular emission, traffic choke points, dug up and dusty roads, industrial emission, construction and demolition waste, and use of diesel generator sets, said the Minister.

Direction to agencies

Strict action will be taken against violators of dust control norms and those found burning waste material in the open, he said.

All three municipal corporations, the Public Works Department, the New Delhi Municipal Council, the Delhi Development Authority, the Delhi Cantonment Board, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, etc., have also been directed to ensure that construction activities undertaken and supervised by them do not lead to emission of dust.
