‘Free water dispensers at public spaces soon’

Keeping in mind the health of people and to help distribute clean and free drinking water, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Friday proposed that free water dispensers be set up in public spaces.

The proposal was made in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Friday at the EDMC office at Patparganj industrial area.

Civic responsibility

“Since many people come to Delhi from various parts of the country and it is not always possible to carry drinking water while travelling, it is the responsibility of the civic body to provide free water dispensers, for the convenience of visitors as well as residents,” the proposal stated.

Dirty ice slabs

The proposal read that water vendors charge ₹2 for 200ml of water, and often use dirty ice slabs to keep the water cold. This, however, poses a threat to the health of people. “Water is the basic necessity of life and everyone deserves clean and drinkable water and it is our responsibility as representatives of people, to provide them with it,” the proposal said.
