Five men, including the HR manager of a mobile company based in Greater Noida, have been booked for allegedly posting lewd comments on the wall of a female colleague on a social networking website.

The HR manager allegedly asked her to quit when she complained against the accused.

Of the five men, the main accused is a technician at the company. The accused allegedly passed lewd comments directed at the woman in the office as well.

Complaint received

“We received a complaint from a Noida-based woman, who is in her early 20s, on December 6. She said the main accused posted a lewd remark on her Facebook profile around 11.34 p.m. on December 1 and three others commented on that post. When she brought the matter to the attention of the HR manager, she was denied help,” said Ecotech-1 police station SHO Farmood Ali Pundhir.

Primary investigation

The woman wrote in her complaint, “The four accused often passed crude remarks against me at work. One of them went on to write obscene things on my Facebook profile. When I tried to complain, the HR manager asked me to leave the company instead of questioning their demeaning act.”

Mr. Pundir said primary investigation conducted with the help of the cyber team has proved that the woman’s allegations are true.

“Based on her complaint and the primary investigation, a case was registered on December 20 under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, along with Sections 504 [intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace] and 506[punishment for criminal intimidation] of the Indian Penal Code. We have also asked the management to conduct an inquiry against the accused under the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act,” added the SHO.
