March 04, 2012 11:35 am | Updated 11:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Two persons have been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for allegedly possessing five kg of ephedrine, which is used to manufacture party drugs known as “ice” and “speed”.

Acting on a tip-off that a consignment would change hands in Gandhi Vihar, the police arrested two persons on Thursday. The accused were identified as Asif Qureshi, 30, and Nigerian national Anene Sylvester, 31. Asif purportedly disclosed that he hails from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.

Last October, he came in contact with one Supriya and Anene in Indore. At their instance, he allegedly procured ephedrine from one Salim and supplied the narcotic to them.

Anene had entered India 2009 on a business visa. He initially set up textile business, but suffered losses and started supplying ephedrine. He would allegedly send the drug to African countries through his contacts.
