The Delhi government is likely to launch the online portal for its archives this week, over a year after the digitisation project was launched in September 2017, according to officials.

The Delhi Archives, which holds about 10 crore records starting from 1803 till the early 1990s, was to digitise 4 crore records in a 30-month period starting in September 2017.

On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also the Minister in-charge for the Delhi Archives, is expected to launch the portal, which will give access to about 60 lakh records in the first phase, government officials said.

Prominent among the records available on the portal will be land records till the early 1990s.

Among the records in the Delhi Archives are documents of the trial of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, the land acquisition and building plans for Lutyens’ Delhi and the conviction details of prisoners of Tihar jail, including freedom fighters.

Through the e-archive portal, users will be able to access the low-resolution images of the record for free, while downloading high-resolution images would require a fee, according to the government’s plan. In addition, the records will also be available on microfilm for use in case of litigation.
