A massive blaze broke out in the green area along the river front, near the Indraprastha Depot fuel station on Thursday evening.

Senior officials from Delhi Fire Services said that they received a call around 5.30 p.m. informing them of smoke billowing from the area. Twenty five fire tenders have been rushed to the spot and the dousing operation is underway.

“Being an open area the fire has spread. The fire majorly spread because of dry leaves in the area. No one has been injured,” a fire official said.

Traffic movement also slowed down around ITO, as drivers crawled to look at the smoke rising from the area.

Another fire was reported from a shop at Sadar Bazaar in the afternoon at 3:36 p.m. No one was injured although the shop was completely charred.

“By 4 p.m. the fire was completely doused, but the cooling operations are still underway. The exact reason of the fire is unknown. However, it looks like a case of short circuit,” the fire official said.

The official added 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
