Fire breaks out at Rohingya camp

A major fire broke out at Rohingya camp in Sarita Vihar on Sunday early morning.

Police told that around 40 shanties were gutted in the fire incident. No casualty was reported.

Eleven fire engines were rushed to extinguish the fire. It took three hours to doused it off, said a fire official.

"Fire broke out at around 3 a.m. and by 6.30 a.m., we had brought the fire under control. One person sustained minor injuries," he said.

The residents are not sure how the fire began. Fire tenders took almost four hours to douse the fire in the area where around 60 families live. In the camp, all the homes were made of asbestos sheets and they are all completely gutted, said fire department.

Police said a forensic team has visited the spot to ascertain the cause of fire.
