The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on May 3 directed the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to file a detailed report on action taken on the alleged illegal banquets that are operating in the area by July 7.

A Bench headed by NGT Acting Chairperson Jawad Rahim said, “The GDA is directed to file statement of the action taken against the banquet halls operating illegally in addition to the reply already filed in this case.”

The directions came while the tribunal was informed that close to 106 banquet halls were operating without obtaining No Objection Certificate(NOC) from concerned authorities.

Earlier, the green panel had issued notices to the authorities after Ghaziabad residents Sushil Raghav and Akash Vashishtha alleged in their plea that a number of banquet halls and wedding farmhouses were operating illegally.

Seeking action against the banquet halls, the plea read, “The banquet halls and party halls also violate the provision of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules 2000... It is further submitted that they extract huge quantity of ground water without any NOC from Central Ground Water Authority.”
