Faridabad gang rape: cops examine CCTV footage

No trace of accused yet; govt transfers three IPS officers

Two days after a young woman was abducted and gang-raped in a moving car in Sector 16 here, a special investigation team on Monday scrutinised the closed-circuit television camera footage at different points along the route purportedly taken by the culprits during the commission of the crime.

“Based on the inputs from the victim on the route taken by the culprits, we have collected and studied the CCTV camera footage at several points. We have zeroed in on a few white SUVs of the make used in the commission of crime, but there is no breakthrough so far,” said a Faridabad Police spokesperson.

The 23-year-old woman was returning home from her office in Sector 16 on Saturday evening when four men in a white SUV pulled her inside near R.G. Chowk and allegedly gang-raped her for around two hours before dumping her on a roadside.

The victim was talking to her cousin over mobile phone when she was abducted. Her cousin informed her brother who in turn alerted the police. A passer-by also made a call to the Police Control Room about the abduction.

Statement recorded

Soon a massive hunt was launched and security was tightened at all check points. The accused dumped the woman near a petrol pump in Sikri village around 9 p.m. and a police team found her.

The woman in her statement said that three men took turns to rape her in the moving vehicle and switched off her mobile phone. They returned her phone before throwing her out of the vehicle.

“The medical examination of the woman has confirmed sexual assault. Her statement before the magistrate has also been recorded. The probe so far has revealed that there were four culprits and none of them were known to the victim. It seems they randomly picked her up. The matter is under investigation,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Pooja Dabla, who heads the special investigation team.

Faridabad CP moved

The Haryana government, meanwhile, has transferred three IPS officers with immediate effect. Faridabad Commissioner of Police Hanif Qureshi has been posted as IGP, security. He has been replaced by Hisar IGP Amitabh Singh Dhillon. Sanjay Kumar, IGP, security, will be the Hisar IGP.
