A Facebook photo helped the police arrest one person for abducting a 21-year-old in East Delhi.

The Delhi Police said nabbed accused is a law student. Four of his accomplices, also students, are on the run. They took to petty crime to support their lavish lifestyle.

On May 1, the accused entered Delhi from Ghaziabad in two cars and abducted a youth walking outside a mall in Anand Vihar. “They demanded Rs.20 lakh within four hours. The victim’s father brought down the amount to Rs.5 lakh and delivered it,” said a senior officer. Though the victim was released, the police kept the case open. “A special task force, led by inspector K. G. Tyagi was set up after the victim claimed to have identified the scooter the abductors used to collect the ransom,” said DCP (East) Rishi Pal.

“The police traced the owner, who was clueless. Upon the search of his Facebook account by the police, the victim identified one of the kidnappers, who was tagged in a photo posted by the scooter owner,” said Mr. Pal. Accused Yogesh was apprehended from Anand Vihar ISBT. His associates Sushank Singh, Anuj, Kuldeep and Rohit are still at large.
