Heralding the start of his party’s campaign for next year’s Assembly elections, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Wednesday was scheduled to spend the night at the Balmiki Colony in north Delhi’s Timarpur here.
Party insiders said that Mr. Tiwari’s decision was in line with the BJP’s strategy to prioritise local issues being faced by residents of unauthorised colonies and jhuggi jhopri clusters, especially those inhabited by SC/ST communities.
Mr. Tiwari also launched an attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, terming him “the enemy of Delhi” for not implementing Centre-sponsored welfare schemes.
“Lakhs of people all over the country are getting the benefits of free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, but Mr. Kejriwal has not implemented it in Delhi and is playing with the health of the people. This scheme could have proved to be a boon for the poor people living in jhuggi bastis, but the Kejriwal-led government did not understand the pain of the poor people,” Mr. Tiwari said.
The senior BJP leader claimed that by “failing” to implement the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna in the Capital, Mr. Kejriwal had shown citizens his “anti-people attitude”.
“Had Mr. Kejriwal been serious about providing houses to the people of Delhi, then lakhs of people would have been allotted houses. But due to its anti-people attitude, the Kejriwal government in place of allotting houses is spending lakhs of rupees on their maintenance,” he said.
“To mislead the people of Delhi, AAP spoke a new lie every day. The Kejriwal-led government had promised to turn Delhi into London-Paris but it has betrayed the people of Delhi The people will give a befitting to AAP by voting for BJP in the next Assembly elections and form a BJP government with full majority,” he claimed.
