The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will launch a Dalit outreach programme under which senior leaders would travel to Dalit colonies in the city. This comes as the party gears up for the Assembly elections in February 2020, sources said.
The programme will be launched within a week and will cover a large number of the over 5,500 Dalit bastis.

“During the visits, we will hold meetings and tell people what we have done for the Dalits and compare it with other States and the Central government,” a senior AAP leader said.
“The leaders will talk about free entrance coaching scheme for Scheduled Caste students, arrangements made during birth anniversaries of icons like B.R. Ambedkar and Valmiki, and others schemes for Dalits,” the leader added.
The demolition of Ravidas temple in the city by the Delhi Development Authority, which is under the ambit of Central government, will also be raised during the visits.
AAP leaders like SC, ST Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam and other MLAs from Dalit community will lead the programme.
This is the fourth public outreach programme the party has launched after its drubbing defeat in the Lok Sabha election in Delhi in May.
The party had lost all seven seats it contested and finished third in five of the seven seats.

Later, a survey done by the party, which showed that they need to increase the connect with people, according to sources.
In June, the AAP had launched ‘Aapka Vidhayak Aapke Dwar’, under which AAP MLAs visit different areas in their constituencies. In September, ‘Jan Samvaad Yatra’ and ‘I Love Kejriwal’ campaign were launched.
Though the Delhi Assembly election is due in February 2020, there have been rumours that it could be held earlier.
But it has been denied by the Election Commission.
